Throw out any salesperson who recommends a training program without an in-depth conversation to gain understanding of your current abilities and experience level. They should be able to select from a generous array of training so they're able to give you a program that suits you.. Occasionally, the training inception point for a person with some experience will be vastly dissimilar to someone just starting out. Working through a user skills course first may be the ideal way to get up and running on your computer studies, depending on your current skill level.

Don't accept anything less than an authorised exam preparation system as part of your course package. Don't go for training programs relying on non-official preparation materials for exams. The terminology of their questions is often somewhat different - and this leads to huge confusion in the actual examination. For many reasons, it is really important to know that you're absolutely ready for the real exam prior to going for it. Rehearsing mock-up exams helps build your confidence and will save a lot of money on thwarted exam entries.

'Oracle' and SQL Server from MS are the key database-systems in operation right now. Oracle is an older System which is still used on large scale installations, although SQL Server is much more well-known today in regular business-environments; SQL has grown to be the de-facto standard for Databases on the net. MS has built SQL Server technology into each of the MS programming languages and platforms - which makes it a clear option over Oracle as far as Database training is concerned. The MCITP (Microsoft Certified IT Professional) and MCTS (Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist) programs have succeeded the older 'MCDBA' (Microsoft Certified Database Administrator) qualifications. SQL Server 08 is beginning to gain a bit of momentum, but it really isn't generally used in the commercial environment just yet. As a result, the 'MCITP' DBA accreditation uses the more popular 'SQL' Server 2005. To be able to gain the full MCITP qualification, a number of MCTS modules must be done first.
